heh, you guys are going two different ways with this...
My engine does have around 120k miles on it, so there prolly is some buildup

I'll just bring timing up to 12 and leave it at that, seems safe enough.

And I'll continue to use 93 Octane, Sound good?

Use what you wish, but I can assure you its best to use the lowest octane rating needed to prevent pinging. If you want to know why, just let me know. I'd be glad to type up an essay on it if your still unsure. By no means do I expect anyone to blindly take my word for it, but if your unsure then do some independant research and decide for yourself whats best.

Dunno what a steeda timing thing is, but Alls ya need is a Timing Light, and a wrench to loosen your Distributor Bolt.

Oh and a breaker bar and socket to turn the engine over.

So how do you set the TOTAL timing?
well you to find out your intial timing first..what its happy at with the fuel your running,,i like to get as high as you can before pinging do it by hear turn tell you hear than back off till it stops, then check it to see where it is,,,...okay to check you r total timing you will need a adjustable timing light..one with a dial on it,,rev. motor untill your timing mark dont move anymore,,say around 3000/3500 depending on dist advance springs.....okay rev motor with the timing light going looking at the timing mark..when it stops advanceing ,,keep motor reving turn dail on timing light untill mark lines up at top dead center,,,,I USE MY TEETH TO TURN IT WITH WHEN REVING UNLESS YOU HAVE 2 PEOPLE,,UNTILL TDC THAN .then see what your total timing is,,,if you have 14 at ilde and 42 total ,,say your motor likes around 38 you will have to take it out of the dist. if you retard your timing to get 38 total you will have 10 at idle......MAKES ANY SINCE AT ALL???

Kinda...
I got a timing light with a dial on the back of it

So you want me to Have someone sit in the car, rev it to 3,000 and hold it there.

While I try and set the distributor so its at 38º when its being revved?
