the 5.0 is an engine that has alot of potential. iam not going to lie..

the stock Boss 5.0's used to come with like 310HP i mean... ****.. thats what the 05 GTs come with..

Pushing 500hp in a stock 302.5.0 block will split the block. I've drove both 4.6 picks up where the 5.0 leaves off. Stock for stock they are both evenly matched. I've owned 99 GT I was surprized how it drove but now own 04 mach1,

Stock boss 5.0? Never was only boss engines 69-70 Boss 302, 69-70 Boss 429, 71 Boss 351. Boss 302 was rated at 290hp (which was under rated) If you talking about the mid 80 mustang with the boss 302 stickers on them they were not factroy they were aftermarket/dealer add on. Same engine as the plain jane 5.0.

BOSS 5.0.....I do believe he was talking about the "BOSS" edition 5.0 from mid nineties....I remember them. I almost bought one once and I also have a die cast model of one....I dont know anything particular about it other than it was made.....


it might not have been a actual Boss edition but I do remember it and like I said I have a diecast of one.

WHY does the amount 500HP keep popping up.? did I miss that somewhere in the posts?

I never said anything about 500HP......I was really concerned about durabiltiy and longevity....I know a 4.6 stock is good for up to 200K or close to it average...mine had 150K and was strong as day one....


anyhow , you guys a a little too serious about the HP than I intend to be ...its just going to be my daily driver to and from work...I am not going to drag it or any of that....

as it sits right now with the mods it has it may be all I need.....


I just wanted to know if the 4.6 was really that much better or worse or even or whatever....

well since you already have the body, and you just need an engine

03/04 4V DOHC 4.6L 2.2L Supercharged Cobra Engine should do the trick for ya. you cant go wrong with about 400 ponies to the ground.

I dont need a motor....I said it has 5K on it meaning the motor in the car has 5000 miles on it.........

I prefer the 5.0. The 4.6 in the 96-98's were a little sluggish, though reliable. Both are reliable motors, the 5.0 just has more potential.

I also owned a thunderbird for two years before getting my 01, thunderbirds have an extremely poor hp:weight ration, 3900lbs. at 220 hp, compared to 3250lbs at 270 hp, big difference, I would personally go with a 46 because they are over head cams, and the 50's are pushrods, which makes for a lot of mechanical loss, but 5.0s are muuuuch cheaper to work on, and can be done easier by yourself.

what is better, Chocolate or Vanilla? It is all a matter of taste, other than the 1996-98 4.6, those just suck

96-98 aren't that bad. PI swap 'em, and they are more powerful than a 99+ by a few horses.
