you guys dont know what 442 stands for. It was 400 cubic inches, 4 barrel carb, and dual exhuast.

I meant that by doing a little search the answer is found. The defination of 442 was taken directly from GM's literature. Originally\ they never had the size of the engine in mind when they named the car 442. Later 442's had 455's in them.
