Its two pipes, they can either be a side exhaust or a rear exhaust

True duel is when 1 pipe comes of the Left bank of the engine and 1 pipe comes off the right bank and they both exit from any type of tail pipe in any position without being tied together with a Y pipe or any type of cross over pipe. Your poll makes no sense.

You can have an X or a H pipe and still be true duals. The key is that they don't go into one single pipe and then back to two, (like on my SS) FWIW both types of systems can perfrom very well, if they are designed right .

Two seperate pipes from headers to tailpipe. Doesn't matter how they get there..straight back side by side down the same side of the car, side by side straight down the middle, etc....

Nope...it's not a logic question...for if it was...ya'll be right

It's not 2 out of each side...

Answer is...

it originated from the 442...4 barell carb, 4 speed, 2 pipes from the same side

To the people who wrote..."as long as they don't connect..." good guess, and your logic makes sense, but your wrong.

just thought i'd enlighten.

Just another tidbit of info for everyone.

you can have dual exhaust and still have it come out one side, a good example of this was the new GTO.

OK buddy You have not enlightened anyone and this thread just seems like a way for you ***** posts. FWIW true duals have been around way longer than the Olds 442. 442 did mean what you said, but it in now way was the originator of the dual exhaust system.
