Default 1966 mustang problem

I just got a 1966 mustang. I started it up where I bought it and it ran good... for a little while (about 20 miles)... all of a sudden I was driving and it just died on me. I tried to start it and nothing, no click, no noise. BUT the headlights will work. Then after about an hour, the car acted like it wanted to start. I got it towed home & tried to start it and it hasn't made a sound since, it still won't start, click, nothing, but again the headlights work. I had the battery checked and it is OK. I was thinking about checking on the solenoid, what should I check after that? thanks so much!!

Solenoid or starter. Perhaps the wire to the starter has come off. If you jump the middle terminal and left side terminal on the solenoid with a screwdriver it should engage the starter, if it does replace the solenoid, if it doesn't check the starter.

sounds like solenoid, also check for any shorts in the wires. behind the ignition switch.
