Thirsty Pony
I am noticing a significant increase in the fuel usage of my 1982 5.0L Mustang. I now only get between 9 to 10 mpg, where I was getting 16-19 mpg before my engine rebuild. I have 2,000 miles on the rebuilt engine so it should be broke in.
The only two significant changes I made were to the carburetor and camshaft. I also had it bored 0.030 over. The engine is running a B&N 144 supercharger with 9 psi max boost pressure. Again, with the supercharger, I was getting acceptable fuel economy prior to the last rebuild.
The carburetor is a Holley 600 cfm with vacuum secondary. I changed the orifices from a 68 to 72.
The camshaft is a Competition Extreme Energy FS XE262H-10 (.493Intake/.500Exhaust lift, 218 Intake / 224 Exhaust duration, 110 degrees seperation). Before the rebuild, I was running a Competition FS268H-10 (.456" Intake/Exhaust lift, 218 duration, 110 lobe separation).
I recently caught wind that my son is giving me a new Holley 750cfm double pumper for fathers day. How badly will this further hurt my fuel consumption. Should I yank the Competition XE262 cam out and put the FS268H back in? [IMG]

RE: Thirsty Pony
You must be Nash's dad! He mentioned it on the FE forum. I don't think the jet change would make that big a difference. Maybe the cam. You might want to run it by the guy's over there. (if you're not Nash's dad, I apologise)
