Default Straight pipes?

OK, i need something cleared up. H-pipe on the exhaust, meant to equalize back flow right? If im wrong someone please correct me so i quit sounding like a dumb@$$. Anyways, if this is true why would you run straight pipes, losing the H-pipe, and throwing off the back flow? Wouldnt this just end up in your losing HP? Someone clear this up for me. Thanks

well Im not to sure about a V6 but I dont think you will see the same gains with exhaust as you would on a V8. I will let the other guys handle this one. Just had to throw in my opinion.

The H-pipe is not to equalize back pressure, it allows both sides of the engine to benefit from the scavaging effect of the exhaust pulses from both sides of the engine. Straight pipes without the H actually will hurt the engine performance compared to pipes with a H pipe installed.

That is a good question.. i have heard things like that also so i assumed that the H pipe is neccessary but what doesnt make since is when people use cut outs and dumps right after the header they gain HP .. Example my 69 fast back uses header then header mufflers from dynomax. So i know no on can tell me im lossing HP cause i dont have a H pipe. I would like to see some dyno numbers. That would be a good thing for a mm&ff mag to do one on. I mean i do use H or X pipes and for some reason i do belive it does help but it does draw questions. Maybe only on fuel injections or smog reasons ? [:'(]
