Default ok.I NEED SERIOUS HELP!!!

ok.about 2 monthes ago my 1988 mustang gt started to have some problems.it started to hesitate and i decided to do a tune up. i replaced the plugs, plugwires, cap, rotor, fuel filter and airfilter. after all this about a month went by and the sh*t hit the fan. all of a sudden now when i try to even tap the gas pedal while in gear.it keeps backfiring through the tailpipe and up near the back of the engine. i checked the fuel pump relay and the fuel pressure regulator and there not the problem. i did see that therew was only 20 psi of fuel pressure. is the problem indefinitly the pump.or could it be timing or something else?its gotten so bad that i cant even get past 1500 rpm.and going up hill FORGET ABOUT IT!!!

You definately need more than 20 psi of fuel presure...

You may want to double check the pressure regulator. Some times the diaphragm will rip and leak fuel.....sucked into the manifold via vaccuum line from the regulator. I would also check and clean the MAF sensor, if 88' CA. car. And also could be the MAP sensor ( located on the firewall, black, has a vacuum line attached and 2 or 3 wire conn. to the bottom). Speed density cars will run like crap if it goes out. Reads engine vaccuum and works in conjuction with the TPS to know what the engine is doing......load, etc. Hope this may help.

well.i know its not the regulator cuz i pulled 25 psi vaccum steady off of it and it didnt move so its not the diaphram. the vaccum on the other hand is only reading 15 psi so could that be the problem.and also all this is happening and there has been NO check engine light.so wtf.

I think you should replace the fuel filter since
it is an 88. A clogged filter would get progressively
worse like you describe.
Good luck
