Default Skipping Gears

I was wondering is it ok to skip gears. Lets say I'm doing about 55mph in 2nd gear. Can I just jump to 5th without messing anything up?

if you're driving for gas mileage you can use most of 1st and 2nd then just put it in 5th. It won't mess anything up, unless you miss and grind em.

or just use all the gears and shift at about 2 or 2 1/2 grand a gear. Thats the best way!

then you're just putting more stress on the clutch/flywheel and synchros. Using the least amount of gas and shifting a lesser amount of times save you gas and future repair bills, because we all know when he's racing he's slamming gears.

Thanks for all the good advice, I've only been driving a stick since I got this car (1-9-04) and I still have a lot to learn.
