Default rear spoiler causing chipped paint

When I close my trunk, the rear spoiler is causing the paint to chip on the trunk lid. I am waiting for a day to go back to the Ford dealer as it is about 20 minutes from my house. I hope no one else is having the same problem. I love the car especially with the top down. This is my first mustang. I traded a 1994 Explorer which I bought brand new. Good trade!!!!

try opening the trunk and see if the bolts that hold the spoiler dwon are loose, if they are tighten them up, that should do it...

I'd bring that back to the dealership and complain. Be persistent and you'll get what you want. I've seen guys raise hell at my dealership and they get everything, i love it

Thanks Sean and OnyxCobra. I checked the bolts and they are tight. I was able to go to my dealer on Saturday, 9/2. They were very helpful, so far. Since their service dept. was not open when I visited, they asked me to return Tuesday. They did say it should be a warranty, no cost fix. I showed them the problem and they were unaware of it. I think it is the design of the lower profile spoiler. There is no support on the downward part. I had to place two small rubber pads under the spoiler to keep from making the paint chip even more. I will update as time allows and whenever I get a chance to make it to the dealer. After all, I am 37 married with 2 kids. I keep busy away from work, too. Thanks for your thoughts. The car is awesome. My whole family loves it.

I have the same problem with the rear spoiler on my 2007 Mustang Premium convertible with the pony package. I took it back to the dealer and they touched it up. It's now been two weeks and its chipping again. Please let me know how your fix works out. Did you have the dealer remove the spoiler and have them add the spacers ? If this keeps the paint from chipping, I would like know the details on how you fixed it. Pleas email me at wdwdiver@netzero.com.
Thanks, Wayne

Default RE: rear spoiler causing chipped paint

I recently visited my dealer and they were very nice. The service rep. took a long look at the spoiler and chips. He decided to research how to fix it before trying to fix it. He said they would paint it, fix it, whatever it takes once he knows the best way to do it. So, I am waiting for his call. I will probably give him about a week and contact him. As for my temporary fix, I went to Lowes(Home Depot probably has it too) and bought a pack of rubber self-sticking bumpers. They are made by Waxman, are 1/2 inch in size and were about $3(in Oklahoma) for a 12 pack. They are a little too tall and make the spoiler raise just a little too much. I would suggest shaving them down just slightly. I placed one on each end of the spoiler very close to where the paint was chipping. I had the sticky side to the spoiler. If you notice the part of the spoiler that curves down towards the ground does not have any support. That is why it chips. It is definitely a factory defect. I hope Ford fixes it before they get too many Mustangs out there with the same problem. Good luck wdwdiver.

Default RE: rear spoiler causing chipped paint

I just got my car back for the second time from the body shop. The first time they re-painted the whole trunk lid and just placed the spoiler back on, my temporary fix was still attached. I showed my service rep and she said let me call the body shop. This Ford service dept. uses an off-the-lot body shop. I went by that person and he asked if he could have my car another day at my convenience. He wanted to try different ideas to try to fix the spoiler. Also, he thought my temp fix was how Ford did it. This morning I dropped it off and picked it up after work. He fixed it by applying extra double sided tape on the trunk. Now, when I close the trunk, the corners do not touch. If I use the center of the trunk, it is fine. If I close it with the corners of the spoiler, it will touch. He said he has a life guarantee as long as I have the car. So, if I have future problems I can take it back. I have been extremely satisfied with the service received by my Ford dealer and the body shop. I highly recommend both of them. Joe Cooper Ford of Tulsa(ask for Melinda at 918-346-6527) and the Collision Repair Specialists of Tulsa(ask for Jeff at 918-622-5588). Hope this helps other Mustangs with the same problem.
