2002 Driver Side Power Window
I have a 2002 Mustang, 3 times over a period of 6 months, the driver side window wouldn't go back up, but the next morning, it went back up. Then a few weeks ago, it wouldn't go back up and the next morning, the next morning and the next morning it wouldn't go back up.
I took it to a shop - they replaced the motor ($166 for the job). Two days later, the same problem occurred again - window would not go back up. I was out of town, so my wife took it back. They did something to make it start working again but don't know what. I got back in town - then it happened again.
This is looking like one of those things where I could spend hundreds of dollars and still not get it fixed. If there is something I can do myself when it happens, I'd like to know. The Ford place said if they work on it, they will replace the motor (again), replace the wiring harness AND the window itself and it will cost over $700. I don't want to go that route if I can do something myself.
I would like to try popping the door panel and having a look - it sounds like a short to me. I've tried to pop them off, but they don't seem to want to come off. I'm afraid to force them too much for fear of breaking something. I can get the window/door lock/mirror control off easily - I see a slot for a screwdriver and it just pops off. But I can't get to anything from there. I don't see screwdriver slots for the door panels themselves.
Does anyone know on a 2002 Mustang how to safely get the door panels off?
Thanks,
Doug

RE: 2002 Driver Side Power Window
invest in a hayne's or chilton's or the manual from the dealer. it'll have step by step info on how to get the panels off, and it's a good thing to have along with any car, imo

RE: 2002 Driver Side Power Window
i think it is the switch, im having the same problems with mine. i have a vert though so it is 4 windows. the pass front window is the only one that works right, and the other 3 all started acting up around the same time. so i think it is the switch, im bout to get it replaced and we will find out.
