HELP! Throttle problems???
Hey all. A few days ago I installed the C&L intake plenum with the Accufab 75mm Throttle body and K&N Cold air kit all at once. They next day I took it to town for a drive and noticed after a while that in neutral or when the clutch was engaged that the rpms were still reved at about 2-2.5K rpm so I headed home and on the way I thought about one of the possible problems being the throttle, so I pulled back on the gas pedal with my hand and the rpms returned to normal. I then thought that maybe when you get on it, the throtte will stick near you're maximum rpm. I tested it and took it to about 5k and surely enough it stuck at about 3, this time pulling back on the pedal didnt do squat so I drove into the garage turned it off and it pulled the throttle body a few times and it was fine. I hoped that I had fixed the problem but aparantly not. Today it did the same thing again. It seems like when a large volume of air comes through the throttle body it doesnt close back all the way to return to regular idle. I am getting farely frustrated with this and need some advice here. first do you think it is for surely the throttle body and second if it is how in the heck do I fix it. Third, has anybody else heard of this kind of problem with the accufab or replacement tbs? Thanks for all you're info!
Heya 00MustangGT - You installed C&L intake plenum with the Accufab 75mm Throttle body and K&N Cold air kit all at once. Correct?
Its seems to me youre throttle body needs to be set-up, I am not 100% sure if you can do it manually, You might have to hook it up the scope computer at a garage to adjust it, I remember my friend had to take it into the shop and hook it up the computer when he changed his throttle body on his 93 LX coupe.
Good luck man.

I have a 2002 GT, with K/N Cold Air Kit...Hypertech Supertuner...40 series Flowmasters with 2.5" pipe..and the same has happened to me...there's an article on how to swap out a TB, and you have to disconnect a switch on the side of the TB and set the idle with it disconnected..I lost the article like an idiot..but that's all I've heard about...d/c the battery didn't help.
i had the same problem when i put in my new intake manifold and tb. i found that the throttle cable was binding so i put a throttle return spring on it i got for $5 at the local parts store and that fixed the problem with the tb staying open.
for the high idle. what you have to do is disconnect the wire on the idle bypass valve on the side of the tb. start the car and let it warm up. after its warm, adjust the screw that determines the tb possition. when the idle drops down to the rpm you want (maybe 800) turn off the car. then reconnect the wire from the idle bypass and your ready to go.
i think its called the idle bypass. its the only thing on the side of the egr spacer with wires coming off it

I too had the same throttle probs w/ '00 GT. I just have the K & N air filter, but same symptoms. The idle air control motor was replaced, but the idle went high and high, up past 2G's, then 3!, so I ended up testing the TP sensor and had to replace the Throttle Position sensor. It ended up costing about 35 for the sensor, isn't bad, so you may get our the volt meter and test that next.
