How would you know if you had an exhaust leak? Im about 75% positive but i wanted to see if there were any other ways to look for it.

usually you can hear a hissing or ticking kinda noise, also sometimes you can smell exhaust inside the car when you're stopped.

Look for condensation coming out of it,
Especially in the morning, for the first start up!

It is not easy to do but if you can get two willing victims U can have them place the bottom of their shoe sole on the exaust pipe tip while you peek under the car.

We did that in the shop a couple of times but the guys wore thick leather work boots.

Obviously the idea is to try to block the exaust so it comes out of the leak area. You will see a stream of smoke from the leak or maybe even hear a hissng sound.

Another way is with an exaust analyser but who has that ?

The area around the leak also gets discolored and may even drip water from condensation so keep looking....

Im still drawing a blank on finding it. I know it isnt after the cat since its all new and the sound seems to be coming from above the cat. Im not seeing any carbon on the outside of the pipe but i can hear it and smell it... right before the cat there seems to be 2 dips on the pipe (top and bottom) im assuming from fitting the pipes to the cat can that be the problem?

You can find exhaust leaks by stuffing rags into one side of the exhaust and throwing a couple of smoke bombs in the pipe, then stuffing rags into the open side. Then you just look to see where the smoke comes out.
