taillight problem

Default taillight problem

ok so my brake lights wont illuminate when i step on the brake but my runnign lights do turn on so the bulbs cant be dead because they light up when the running lights are turned on and off.. i checked the fuses under the drivers side dash and there all fine what can my problem be?

The running (parking) lites are not related
to the brake lites other than the use the
SAME BULB. The bulb #1147 #1154 or
other is a dual fillament and either one
or both can burn out.
Take out the bulb and look at the fillaments.
Check the brake pedal switch.
Check the turn sig and hazzards.

Bulbs are bad. It cant hurt to replace em, theyre only like $1.98 for 2. Thats the first place Id start.

On my 86 GT I had a similar problem. I changed the switch, and while I was changing it I found the wires going to the switch were broken off from the movement of the switch over time. Check the wires right at the brake switch for breakage.

that doesn't make much sense why both brake lights would go bad at the same time. I think your problem is with the switch.

haha yeah thank you guys i fixed it, it was the switch under by the brake pedal the wire was pulled out a little so i pushed it in hit the brakes and it worked, man i love easy fixes like that
