Need help getting engine running right
Hi all. Just wondering if i can get some input on setting up my engine and new carb. I just need a kind of basic step by step of what to set up. I have a 66 mustang coupe with a 289 4bbl. I just bought a new Holley and have been seeing different setups and wanted to know which is the right one.
When should i set the timing
When i am check the timing to i disconnect the vacuum advance hose and plug something up or not.
Now when adjusting the carb do i set the fast idle first and after that set the curb idle and next adjust the mixture. I read that you
should not adjust the curb idle after you adjust the mixture screws but wouldn't you have too cause the idle would be to high.
Also do i go back and forth 1/4 turns on each screw or can i do one side then the other.
I do have a tach/dwell gauge and was wondering if i still need to hook up a vacuum gauge. Also if i have to adjust the points because
of the dwell being off, do i have to start the process all over again.
Thanks for all the help and patience. Trying hard to learn here.

RE: Need help getting engine running right
Adjust the dwell first before the timing. The dwell affects the timing so it needs to be done first.
Adjust the timing with the vacum advanced disconnected and the hose plugged.
Adjust the mixture screws 1/4 or less at a time going back/forth from one to the other then set your fast idle.
