1997 Mustang door replacement
My son sideswiped another vehicle and damaged the passsenger side of his 1997 V6. I have access to a complete used passenger door. How do you remove and replace the door? Does it bolt on or is welding required? The door will open and shut so I don't see that the hinge is bent or broken.
Thanks.
Thanks.
1) Each hinge needs to have the pin removed(only if the hinges are welded on)..The old door will now be removed.Reverse the proceedure to attach the new door to the car. There may be a spring in each of the hinges visable when the door is open .If that is the case it needs to be removed with a spring compressor ,before you take out each pin.. Probably renting one(spring compressor) from an AUTO PARTS STORE is your best bet. Replace it after the door pin is back in place. 2) If the hinges are bolted on,then simply remove (unbolt)the hinges from the old door, and reverse the proceedure to bolt on the newer door. 3) The old door needs to have the wiring removed from it so as to keep the wire harness with the car. Before putting on the new door remove any wiring(Only if the wire harness has been retained ,but cut making them essentially useless). What you do not want to end up with is all the wiring cut and then respliced together. The door is heavy,as you already know.Once the new door is installed hook up ,power window, door lock actuator etc. with the cars original wiring.Have one person help you and use a floor jack to take the wieght of the door.
