Angry-like? LoL, ok whatever. Not sure why you thought that was "angry like" but I don't really care either. Don't really care if you liked the analogy or not either. If you beleive they work, then oh well. It's not my problem. After all, you read it somewhere so it must be true!

again, it was a question, I never said they worked...

hmmm.... to speed or not to speed..... seems pretty cut and dry to me, on the interstate keep it 5-8 mph over the limit and most officers are kosher as long as your just cruising

The reason radar jammers are illegal in all 50 states is because they send out a signal that's not licensed by the FCC.That's not saying they work,(they don't) but that's the reason why.
Now for my chance to plug the mighty V1.The Valentine 1 is the most advanced radar detector on the market today.Once you learn how to use the directional arrows to your advantage you'll never own anything else. They tell you where the radar source is so it's easy to figure out whether the signal is a door opener or a radar car following you from a half mile behind.Customer service is also first rate.

hey fellas,

what can you tell me about a radar detector, if i get one i allready know which one i am going to get, the only thing i dont really know is how they work, and what they do to prevent you from getting a ticket. from what i have read it just lets you know that you are getting skanned and you are screwed, what good would that do? thanks for any help
Radar detectors - a simple summary:
Usually detect the main/popular microwave frequencies for speed enforcement.
1)X band
2)K band
3)Ka band

Better/Newer/high end models detect Laser (LADAR) which is 920nm infra red light.

Some (BEL and Escort for example) have models that have Laser Jamming capabilities.
Microwave jammers are Illegal in pretty much all of north america.

Use is at your own risk! (some newer laws are coming into place for LASER jamming, where previously none existed)

I find that mine has saved me from a free subscription to the Ball a few times.
Photo radar (popular where i live) is always on, so you pick it up well in advance.
But roaming car microwave - they have instant on, and it will get you before you have time to slow down (except with other traffic in front of you, if they get shot, you get advance warning)

LASER - is a very narrow beam width, even at a good distance (1000m) <-- from canada, metric
And very instant reading for them, usually when you get shot, its too late.
BUT - the laser jammers do work in certain situations (farther away the better the jam, closer you are the less likely to jam)

Law enforcement does not like countermeasures [:@]
And if they see it, they take no mercy on you.

In states/provinces where detectors are banned, they have radar detector "Detectors"
Some of the high quality radar detectors prevent this detection by "them". ( VG1 and VG2 )

When it comes to false alerts - building alarm systems, door openers etc.. This can be annoying, and make you vulnerable to legit radar signals (by becoming complacent to alerts) - but if it is a regular route to follow, you begin to learn these locations and drive appropriately.

a great site for information, and actual tests goto www.radarbusters.com

.... i wish there was something that picked up on the radio frequencys (sp?) that cop cars give off, that way, you could know how many are near you, where they are and what direction they are going. but i doubt that would work cause the only time it would work is when cops are USING their radio........ bummer.....

Not only that, but every department has a different frequency. And sometimes each department has many different frequencies. The other problem you would face... radio waves will travel great distances in all directions. So every time a cop keyed his mic, it would set it off. It would be hard to determine the direction and distance... you would only know that a cop was somewhere within a few miles of you. And then if they are using repeaters, the signal can get bounced for hundreds of miles in all directions.

In other words, if such a device was working, it would drive you crazy gonig off every second and it wouldn't even be able to tell you where they were

I had an Escort 8500 X50. I loved it, until it decided to start having issues. I had it replaced once because it kept reading "Service required". This happened again about a month after my warrenty went up and they refused to work with me. I understand the concept of the warrenty going up, but at the same time customer service did nothing to work with me on the issue.

So I bought a Valentine 1. The arrows are the most amazing feature in the world. I should have bought one of these from day 1. A tad bit bulkier, but much more informative.

As for the Lidar, there's only one 100% solution Blinder X-Treme. You'll never get a lidar ticket.

Heat is a real killer with radar detectors.I mounted a small computer fan under the body of the radar detector and ran the wires to the cigarette lighter plug's dual connector. My V1 would get hotter than hell even with the A/C on and now it stays a lot cooler.I also made a shade to block sunlight.that helped a lot also.

Anyone who says that they have a "100% solution" has no clue what they are talking about.

im not gonna get into too many details, but i believe jammers are not illegal in all states but they only work from certain distances and within like 100 feet they dont do anything. bel has a new high end detector called the rx65 which has beaten the v1 in a few tests (i still think the arrow feature is kickass regardless of that). theres tons of info and good review sites out there if you want to inform yourself more about the subject.
