broke something. don't know what
friday night i broke something. i did a run at the strip and about second gear i hear this nasty thunk and my right tire starts smoking like cheech and chong. after that only the right would spin when both used to.

Sounds like your spider gear or the clutch pack in the rear.
Jack it up and try to spin the tires opposite ways.Or you could pull your diff cover and do an inspection.

i jacked it up and when i spin the right tire the left on don't do ****. when it happened the whole car shook like hell and wanted to go sideways. i got kicked off the track until i get it fixed.

You have eaten the rear end .I'm sure you knew this.Is the car under warranty? If so take it in and DON'T say anything at all about racing of any kind.If not ,take it apart and see whats inside.Your'e already ahead of the game in that you don't have an observation window ready-made from flying parts. It could be something as simple,so to say,as a broken axle.Good luck

no warrenty. it's an 8.8 inch from a 2001 GT. it should not have broke with the torque and horsepower i'm making. i also bent both lower control arms so the ****ing wants to go sideways at 10 mph in 2nd gear.

Sounds like a broken gear or carrier. The bent control arms point to a sudden stoppage that caused the diff to rotate backward. Then everything fell into the bottom of the rear end out of the way and you got to drive it back to the pits.

i'm still driving the ****ing thing! that is the weird part. when i broke the dana 60 in my corolla the car wouldn't go ten feet, but i have driven my car almost 100 miles since it happened.

WOW a true mystery!!!I would love to see inside this one.I really have no idea now,but just a guess, would be a broken axle?(I can't find a smiley wearing a dunce cap).Be careful because one of the axles could be loose inside the case and is probably being held in place by the brake discs and could come out going around a corner, with disasterous results. The bent control arms don't point to a solution either.

i think it's the limited slip. when i pulled the diff cover two little cluches fell out, among other things. so i broke out the welder and tacked everything together until i can find a better rear end. now the car doesn't want to turn.
