Default tranny -- aod

i have an 89 lx 5.0 w/aod.i occasionally like to shift it manually. under wot my tranny will hold off the 2 to 3 shift until about 5200rpm, but otherwise it jumps to 3 sooner than i think it should. is this something i could change by having a shifter with the ability to hold second and third gear shifts? my shifter like most i think, have 1,then D, then OD. i have a b@m shift kit in the trnny.(don't know if this matters for this situation) thanks

I would have a Trans shop check the TV adjustment, adjust it by pressures, basically set your shift points.

That sounds normal for the AOD trannys. They tend to quickly jump through 2nd and go straight to 3rd. That's why when peopel shift manually with an AOD, they have to do the 1-D-1 shuffle.

Thankfully, I have an AODE tranny with a shift kit, so I can go 1-2-D.

Reworked pressures and a shift kit are your best bet. But a shifter would be good also, just for controllability.
