351 vs current
Hello Everyone. I currently have a 84 3.8 v6 mustang that has about 130,000 miles. In about two years i am planning on getting a 351 Engine put in it. I was wondering if it would fit with a regular hood, or if i needed a Cowl. Reason being, im geting a paintjob and a new hood before the engine, so i need to know if i sould get a regular hood, 2 or 4 inch cowl or what. Also am i gonna have to do alot of other **** so my car doesnt blow up or what not because of the engine? PLease email me back if you have done this swap or know about it and give me advise on what i need to do. Thanks alot.

Its really depends on what kind of mods youre gonna do with the 351w? If you are adding a highrise intake then I am sure you will need the cowl hood. If youre wanting the cowl hood sure then it good to get it.

I'd go for the 351W engine, more readily available parts for it than for the Cleveland engine. you will probably need a cowl hood due to the taller block on the 351. you will also need to think about beefing up your transmission, rear end, and brakes if you make any kind of decent HP with the 351.

And you would suggest an AOD right roundman?[:'(]
I gotta do some research(post a topic) on what tranny I can buy that will fit the clutch I just bought for my T5
I hear I can't use the TKO because the teeth on it was differant and the shafts were longer/shorter or something.

Dude, why not get a new car? The car itself is already 20 years old... you're looking at a new paint job, engine, transmission. I bet for less money you could get a 5.0 fox body w/ less miles. Or even a 96-98 GT... 99's are a bit higher.
I'm surprised nobody suggested it before. True, less power, but more reliability...
Also, no one mentioned that w/ the new engine you're going to need a whole new front suspension as well as bigger front brakes.
All that adds up quick in the money department.

acer..you may have a point...but it seems the guys want more power...and the like.....see everyone under the sun has those model how many 84's do you see?.....as for brakes, cheap junk yards parts for a 87up stang they about give the stuff away as with springs etc...
