The guys on F150online.com are slow to respond to me, so I decided to post it on here as well. My truck is a '94 F150 5.0


For awhile my truck would charge normally except when RPM's got too high, and occasionally when sitting at idle. Regular cruising voltage would maintain at about 13.5V, sitting at idle or rpm's too high voltage would drop to about 12V. Not a big problem for me, but now the voltage needle is holding between N and O on the gauge. I have an alternator on order, should be here tomorrow. Just curious as to what you guys think is sounds like is wrong. Alternator or voltage regulator? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Loren

Are you using the ford gauges to assess the
charging condition.
You need a volt meter, analog or digital.
Place it across the battery and read when idleing
and compare it to the dash meter.
Boost up throttle and take another reading.
Put lights and fan on and take another reading.

I fixed it, my new alternator came in today (which had a new voltage regulator on it). My ford gauges are reading fine now. Thanks for your help though.
