Default Power surges

ive posted this in the 4.6 section but didnt get a response. please help. any thoughts are appreciated

when i drive or am in neutral, i get up to 2,400 rpm's and my radio cuts out, my lights surge to the high beams, and my battery guage needle pings to the high mark (all at the same time). when i shift and the the rpm's drop. the lights dim to normal, the radio/cd player comes back on, and the battery guage needle falls back to the normal spot.

what is causing this and how can i fix it?!!!!!!! this is making me extremely angry

Check the battery cable connections, make sure they are clean and free of corrosion. Sounds like you may have a ground problem. I would start with that before I spent any money trying to track down an electrical demon. Did this problem just start, or has it progressed with time?

wow. an answer. i figured it was 1 of 3 things. alternator, battery, or voltage regulator. i ruled out grounds because it was rpm related. anyone know of a website i could get a voltage regulator off of? or do they have them at a local autoparts store.

once again, thank you thank you thank you.[sm=happybounce.gif]
