Ideas for passing emmissions
ORIGINAL: Monch
a friend of mine who owned a sleek italian roadster - fiat x19 - haha got you - could not pass a smog test here in california. the mechanic told him that he'd need new cats and some egr work to pass. he read on a forum somewhere that rubbing alcohol could help him pass. so he bought a bunch of rubbing alcohol, the highest concentration stuff you can find at the store, and put it in the tank. he then went on to pass his test, the same mechanic was competely surprised, saying that his levels were below many types of new cars. he doesn't remember how much he used vs how much fuel was in the tank, but it worked.
he may have been lying to me, but i doubt it. i just though i'd mention it as an idea on what to search for on the web.
good luck

That wouldnt burn your valves or anything else up? Sounds a little dangerous.

i don't know, but i agree, its something that i wouldn't do or at least i'd research it to death before i tried. i just heard about it and thought i'd mention it.
Yea its called methynlo hydrate any auto parts place has it, It works like a charm its like 1.39 cdn, its about $.99 cent US Ive think. Home depot sells it. It wont burn youre valves or rings, Its like running alochol in youre car. Its just a oderless burning fuel. Just make sure before you go to the emissions test station thats you have a fresh oil change, Thats makes the big diff too.
Here's what I've heard...
Fill up the gas tank to the brim for some reason. Retard your timing a bit, make sure the motor is warmed up a bit, make sure you go to the lane with a younger kid in it and talk to him. Money always helps, I got lucky and found a guy who loves stangs and has one as well.
Without getting too drastic, you could purchase that guaranteed to pass stuff at the store to see if it works but try some other stuff first. And remember that you can take it as many times as you want so don't worry if you don't pass.

my brother tried the alcohol trick last year and he failed worse than the first time with no alcohol. I usually buy a small orange bottle from autozone for like $6 and i've passed everytime. but since i've bought my new stang they dont test the emissions anymore they just plug it in near the driverside kick panel. so i dont really know how that all works just yet.
