Default 3.8 to v-8 swap

My car is a 94 v-6 with an excellent body and interior. It has 200,000 miles on it and it could use an upgrade and i could use a project. I wanted to find a 5.0 EFI with a 5 speed to go in it, but research has told me this might be difficult in the electrical department, which is probably my weakest area of expertise. I would like to know how easily this can be done and if I would be better off going with a carbureted windsor. Buying another car isn't an option because i want to use this car. If there wasn't any work involved then it wouldn't be any fun, right?

You could probably just make your v6 as fast as the 5.0 for the same, if not less money. I'm not a big fx4 person but I would assume you would need to replace the brakes, rear end gears, suspension, and new motor mounts along with that bigger heavier engine.

I don't want a v-6 in it. I'm a fan of the classic v-8 and nothing sounds like a v-8.

Someone with a 95 and basically the same circumstances put a 351 windsor in his for under $500. Money is all about how resourceful you are. Yes, I have quite a bit of experience doing engine swaps, just not anything this new where I have to deal with electrical this much.

If they put a 351 in a 95 they bypassed all the computer stuff, means no fuel injection, if you want to go that way then ya you can go cheap, but it does not mean its better!

as for 500 bucks for a swap, i think he is leaving some serious costs out,

the engine would cost more than that unless he just got a used one to throw in ,

motor mounts, new hood, carb, powersteering pump, i have no idea if the trans will bolt up to a 351, i will guess and say you will atleat need a new bell housing,

wiring , you will either need a manual fuel pump, or wire in an aftermarket fuel pump, since yours wont work right with the computer disconected to all of the engine sensors

anyone can pull an engine and install an engine, thats just taking bolts off lifting the engine out , then putting it in and bolting it back up ,

its getting it right, getting the wiring right and not being hacked! its getting the car running like a champ not mickey moused, if you want to do it right, you will need to read about the wiring and how to get around it !

At this point i have decided the best way to go would be a carbureted motor. The $500 he was referring to was not including motor, transmission, and rear end. This car will not be a daily driver, so it doesn't necessarily have to be very efficient. I am a fan of the old classic motors and this new electrical stuff just isn't for me so I think i will have more fun doing a 351 windsor carbureted. The car is an automatic and i'm not a fan of them so a 5 speed or at least a properly-geared 4 speed manual will be going in it. The only reason I thought about a 5.0 EFI was for drivability purposes, but as i said, this is not too important.

You can find people to d swaps pretty cheap. I know a guy who will do engine + trans for 750$. That doesnt include the EDU or rear, but its pretty cheap. I think 6grand is about what you would pay if you took it to a dealer, but if you find mechanics who are willing to do sidework you could get away with under 2g i bet.

thats alot of work, i personally would do a thunderbird supercoupe swap, you will get around 20 more rwhp and 40 more rwtq, its an easier swap, and you can build it up to no tomorow and the block wont crack in half at 500 Hp if you ever get that high

THIS IS A PERSONAL PROJECT! I don't want to take it to anybody to have it done. I'm in the military and after a trip over to Iraq I will have a few bucks to spend. My uncle has a 66 cobra (not the mustang) with a windsor and it is a pretty sweet motor. I think the windsor would be my first choice, but i'd be flexible enough to go with something else.
