auto trans shifter hard to move

RE: auto trans shifter hard to move
You could try lubing it with some spray lube, but with it being a cable shifter, make sure your ground straps are all in good shape, if you have a faulty ground, it is putting a load on the shifter cable, and could actually be melting the cable as it gets hot, you dont see it much anymore, but it was a problem that plagued older gm's and fords with floor shifts.

You can access the shifter cable from under the car
in a lift. Let me tell you about my 89 GT auto.
Went to the store, when I parked I noticed the
shifter went into park without any pressure.
Got out of store and started car and the shifter
went anywhere without any pressure. Stuck IN
NEUTRAL. No way to move car without a tow.
Towed to shop, they reported shifter cable
broke. $230 from ford... $100 from NAPA.
Long delay in getting it. When fixed it no
longer went good into park. Wife found out
when car started rolling when she got out.
Another week and a new NAPA cable and all
is OK.
I would oil the crap out of the entire cable
hoping to put off the enevitable. Probably a
good idea to pick up one from a YARD. But
when it brakes you are done for.
