Default Can you trick O2 sensor?

Hi,
My car is a 1996 GT supercharged. The engine light is on because from the mods it requires premium gasoline. However, as you are aware, gas is expensive, very expensive. So, I was wondering if there was a way to not shut off the O2 sensor, but trick it into thinking that the car was running the correct type of gas? Thanks.

I think your a bit confused here. Premium fuel will not cause a CEL (check engine light). If your getting a light it is because there is a problem with somthing. Have you tried scanning the ECU and finding out what code it's throwing? Auto Zone will scan it for free. Besides all that, being supercharged you NEED to run the correct fuel, not trick the ECU. The margine for error is pretty small when dealing with forced induction, don't take chances by being cheap or taking shortcuts.

Yeah, I suppose your right about running the correct fuel. Better safe than sorry. However, I do know that it is because of using the incorrect fuel that it is on. When the engine light blinks, it is a engine problem; however, when the engine light remains on it's a fuel problem. I read that in the manual when I got bored one day. It's like that with most Ford's I have been around. I put premium fuel in it for a little while to see if it would go off and it did so I know I need premium. But as you said, better just put premium. I would probably rather put a few extra dollars in the tank, every so often than pay one huge chunk of money for any serious damage. Thanks for the reply.
