Default Battery question

This is more of a general question than a mustang question, but since I have a mustang, I thought I'd ask it here.
I stupidly left my keys in the ignition overnight (I was in the car replacing CDs when I got called away suddenly, and I just forget about it.)
So obviously when I got in the car the next day the battery was dead. I got a jump from a friend and now it seems o.k. I've started it up many times now with no problem and the battery gauge on the dash reads exactly half way between low and high.
Question; Should I go ahead and get a new battery to replace the one I have because it's been drained once, or should it be o.k.? The battery is 2 and a half years old. Thanks a lot.

Should be okay. Draining it totally once isn't going to ruin it forever. Batteries should last you 4-5 years. If you do decide to get a new one make sure that you get a good one! But I see no reason at all why you would have too, as long as it starts now and is holding a charge then you should be ok!

yeah.
Why spend money if you dont have to.If your concerned, then go to a shop or auto parts store and have them do a load test on it and see how it does.

You don't need a new battery, just remember to take the keys out of the ignition next time! LOL
Helpful hint from roundman-when the battery starts to go bad, when you start it the voltage will drop low enough that the radio will lose it's brain and the clock and presets won't work. this is an early warning sign that you need a new one soon![sm=trust_me.gif]

Thanks everyone. I feel a lot better now. I really wasn't looking forward to shelling out the bucks for a new one.

I'm pretty sure I have the orig. battery in my car... from 1998..Well, 1997 actually. When I'm sitting at a stop light or whatever and I put the windows down or up, the headlights go WAY down...

Also, when I bought the car, the local station did a volatge test and it said it needed to be replaced, but it has been fine. Cranking seems a little slow, but nothing extraordinarily bad.

Should I play it safe and get a new battery?

Yeah, you definitely should. That's extra stress on your alternator.
