Default odometer rollback?

A carfax on my car comes up pretty much blank after the first owner of my car. The first owner put about 34k on it then the second one somehow only put a few more thousand miles on the car in several years. The cars condition would suggest that it has alot more miles on it then stated though so I'm wondering if someone fooled with the milage. Is it possible for someone to change the milage by replacing the cluster with one from a lower milage car or the ecu? What things should I check to find out?

Well the only thing I can think of would be that the put the speedcal on the wrong setting on purpose. You can change the setting so that the milage would be less than actual. There are some people that just dont drive their cars. My calc teacher in highschool has a Bullit with 1700 miles. Its almost 6 years old. I dont know how you could check that tho.

The mileage is retained by the computer and is unchangable even if the cluster was replaced the computer would reput the actual mileage on the new one. Sounds like he just didnt drive it very often.
