Replacing a Master Cylinder
I have to replace the master cylinder on my DD and I'm looking for a few pointers.
I know I need to keep air out of the system, especially the ABS pump, but I should prolly drain and change the brake fluid as it's turning dark brown. Is there any way for me to drain and fill without getting air in the ABS pump?
Also, how should I go about installing the new MC? I'm getting a new one with the reservoir already attached. Should I clamp off the main hose under the MC and than install or drain everything, install MC and gravity bleed?
Also, when Gravity bleeding, should I leave all bleeder valves open or just the farthest from the source?
If there is something I didn't say her let me know and I'll get any info posted.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Replacing a Master Cylinder
If the fluid is dark I would add fluid to the new
MC and bench blead it. RAemove the old MC
and install new one. I use the small plastic
bottle with tube protruding through the top
to the bottom. Attach the bottle to each bleader
and open up the bleader screw. Manually pump
the brake (engine off) till the bottle has enough
fluid , Make sure to keep adding new fluid to the MC.
close the bleader and that wheel is done.
Do this to all wheels.
You should have a good pedal then.

Sounds like a plan. I got one of those one person bleeders the other day. I just need to MC and a new bleeder screw for the D/S caliper. It's clogged.

RE: Replacing a Master Cylinder
Sorry for the double post, but I have another question.
I'm going to bleed the system when I install the new MC. I know how to get the fluid out of the main lines. I need to know what the big 3/4 inch hose that comes off the side leads to and how to get the old fluid out of there. I've been looking for the Haynes and Chilton's manuals for my car, but no one carries them.
Is that the line to the ABS pump? Is there a way to bleed that thru the lines or do I have to bleed the pump itself? If I do, do I need a special tool?
Man! This sucks!! LOL!! [:@]
