Engine specs
I have a question, what is the difference between the 4.6L in the 99-04 'stang VS the 4.6L in the 05+ as far as mounting goes? I am trying to figure out what it would take to drop in a 5.4L out of a new GT-500, if it is even possible.
I currently have a 98 Chevy Malibu, and there is nothing i can really do with it, modding wise. I love to modify things, and mustangs just seem to be a really good pallate for my self expression. I like the inherent agressiveness the 99-04 body style has, and want to build off that. I think the big meanness of the shelby GT-500 engine is appropriate for my need for speed. I am looking for suggestions, as far as performance goes, as my need for speed is not satisfied by the 150hp that my 2.4L GM engine puts out, the only direct drop in for it is a 3.4L V6 that only gives me 20 more hp. As you can imagine, this is very not worth it. This may however be hy the first option I'm looking into is an engine swap. I'm not rich, so what i want to do is be able to build something piece by piece, over time, as this is my only option. Because of this, I wonder if engine mounts are the same on these, and maybe even the V6 stangs, so I can save money on the initial car purchase. I will be going through this forum researching everything I can, and I welcome the opinions of the apparently very knowlegable user base of this forum. Thanks for you help.

Just buy a 03/04 Cobra. with a few bolt on these cars are just as good as the GT500. Your not going to find a GT500 engine for very cheap for a very long time. Hell 03/04 Cobra engines are going for 8,000 to 12,000 used.
To answer your question the GT500 should bolt right in any old Mustang.
