Shocks vs. Struts
I found KYB's for my DD (93 LeSabre). I NEED to replace my suspension cause it feels like a bar stool with one short leg, just wobbling from the ps front to the ds rear after bumps/dips.
Now there are three available for both the front and the rear.
GR-2 and Gas-A-Just shocks ($20 and $43 each) and the GR-2 strut for $68 (front and rear within dollars)
I know, you get what you pay for, but what is the difference between shocks and struts? What would the difference be if I put in the 20 dollar shocks compared to the 70 dollar struts?
I am also looking into a coil kit, 1.2 inch drop in front and 1 inch in rear to add to the handling.

RE: Shocks vs. Struts
Shocks and struts are two completely different things and are not interchangable. Struts are actually part of the supporting suspension, like on the front of a 79-current Mustang. Shocks simply mount between two suspension components and dampen the up/down motion of the car. Your car will use struts on the front and shocks on the rear.

Shocks and struts together. Note that the struts have spring supports on them.

Okay, that's fine and well (actually, I thought that was the case) but why the F%#@ do they list the both for both the front and rear? And why do they have a coil kit with coils for the front and the rear???

RE: Shocks vs. Struts
Edit: your LeSabre actually has strut front and rear. Sorry, I'm not up on my GM crap since I got out of the general repair field and into a dealership. The KYB cataloglists GR2 struts front and rear for 91-99 LeSabre (w/out rear air suspension) as 236007 for the front and 235025 for the rear. http://www.kyb.com/catalog/2006_passenger_car.pdf
You may have been looking at a listing that includes the older rear wheel drive models.
