Does the defrost setting turn on the a/c compressor?

Does the defrost setting turn on the a/c compressor?
On my previous vehicle the defrost setting would kick on the compressor and bog down my engine. I can't tell the difference with my Mustang even when the a/c is on so I was just wondering if anyone knew if it did or not

When you turn on the front defroster it does turn the A/C on. This helps pull the moisture from the air to keep your windsheild from fogging up.
