Default Tires for 97 GT

If this deal I am working with goes through, I need new front tires.

Can I get tires anywhere for it? Basically, I am wondering if Mustang sizes are any different than any other car. This car is supposed to have stock rims.

I usually purchase Michellen (sp) tires. Anybody have a different opinion?

Make sure you move the worn ones to the front and put the new ones on the back. You don't want stickier tires up fron than you have out back. My suggestion would be some Nitto 275/40/17's out back (either 555 or 555R)

Never heard of the brand you recommended. Where do you purchase those and why?

Never heard of nittos? They're a performance tire and most places that sell aftermarket wheels/tires sell them. Try www.tires.com as they had the best prices for me (free shipping).

The 555's are a really good all around tire.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will check them out.

What do you do with your car -- race or show or just everyday driving?

Daily driver mostly, which is why I went w/ the 555's instead of the 555R's (the drag radials), but by going w/ a 275 width I gave myself more than enough traction for my casual drag racing.

Once i get my STUPID FREAKING PANEL fixed (clear is peeling) and a Stage II kit from UPR, I want to start showing the car.

My 00 is getting new tires as we speak, and I just took her to tire discounters so I could get a free alignment. I don't put performance tires on her though, and they had a lot of options on tires for me.

I was just wondering if the GT's with stock rims, possibly 17", would cost more than, say a Honda?

Are the tires needed for a mustang any more expensive than any other for a name brand like Goodyear, etc.?

They're not needed by any means.... Goodyear makes performance tires as well, the F1's are WAY more expensive than the nittos. Nittos solely makes performance tires, while Goodyear, kuhmo, Michelen, BFG, make tires that cover then entire spectrum.

If I were you I would do: (On a budget of course)

Front: Nitto 245/45/17 $115 per tire
Back: Nitto 255/45/17 $130 per tire... Both sets are nitto 555's from www.tires.com The 255's aren't AWESOME for the track, but should give you pretty good grip (a little bigger than stock).

Are the Goodyear F1's better than the Nitto's? Just curious because I got the F1's on mine and got a great deal on them.
