radar detector
my brother has an older cobra (couple/few years old now) and it'll give you enough warning to be worth the money. now this is just my opinion on the matter, but if you're gonna make an investment on something to prevent speeding tickets, it would be wise to get something that's going to let you know WAY in advance. it would really suck to end up paying for a cobra detector and a ticket when you could have gotten an escort 8500 or valentine 1 for the same price. all that depends on how much the cobra is really i guess though. just remember to keep the cost/effectiveness ratio in mind. and read lots of reviews, i know theres plenty online. just hit up google
theres a forum that talks a lot... www.radardetectorforums.com
All that i have heard is that cobra's arent that good. Big department stores make more money off of cobra then other companies to they carry them.
Do you have window tint? I also read that the tint can reduce effectiveness by 37%(up to)
I have 5%....so i'm pretty leary about getting one at all now. My cuz has a val 1 and it is amazing.

Do not waste your money on a cobra.
I have posted some information before about this in the forums.
Cobras are one of the worse ones out there.
There are NOT 12 band in radar, that is nothing but Cobra B.S. Marketing.
If they can not even tell the truth about bands of radar, how can you expect them to be honest about their products?
There are only 3 bands of radar being used at this time in the U.S.
X band, K band and KA band. THAT is it. That is 3 bands of radar.
Now there is laser being used but that is NOT radar and it is not a band, it is light.
Totally different.
So do not believe their HYPE!! 12 bands my A$$, Cobra lies!!!
If money is tight I would recommend the Whistler XTR 560 series.
If you can save a little more money go to Radio Shack and see if they still have any BEL 895's left and buy one of those.
If not look at the Bell 955 which can be bought at many places.
If you really want the best you have to save even more money and look at the Escort 8500 X50, Bel RX 65 or a Valentine 1 unit.
The best bang for your buck is going to be the Bel 895 or 955, but since you live in Illinois I know the police use laser as well so the bell might not be the best depending on if laser is used in your area.
The other option is to buy one of the bel units and save your money for a Blinder laser jammer.
As mentioned www.radardetectorforums.com you can go there for more info.
I am a moderator at that forum and we will be glad to get you set up with some ideas and help.
Just remember NO radar detector is 100%.

I have had my Valentine 1 for almost 6 years now and it is totally indespensible. I really can't even count the number of times that it has saved me. Now that I have it, I don't know how I ever drove without one.
