Default shifter button stuck

I have never messed with this mustangs shifter it is a 2003 V6 and the button on the shifter is stuck after it is put in Park. It takes both hands to break it free and then it shifts fine. What is causing the problem? need to know Soon it is the Girlfriends brothers.

Thank you
Will

I have the same problem on my 98 GT. It was fine when I bought it a few months ago and it was warmer out. Now I have to mess with it so that the button fully engages so I can get out of "Park". Once I am out of "Park" it is fine. What could this be?

Gents:

There is a 'locking solenoid' that may have gone bad. The Haynes manual ($20 at AutoZone or Borders) has aschematic that shows the shifter lock-out system. So, check the brake on-off (BOO) switch, up near the top ofthe brake pedal. The spring may be broken in the shifter handle, too, and this may be preventing the button from depressing. Nothing firm to give you to go on but a few suggestions to try. I'll see if I can find anything else on that solenoid schematic for you.
