Default Car problem

My car is having problems when I start it up. Even if I keep it running for an hour trying to warm it up it will bog down when I stomp on the petal like something is clogging the fuel. After a while of driving the car I will turn it off and then turn it right back on and it will be just fine. The car is an 89 LX 5.0 with a 331 Stroker and Tremec 500 for tranny. PLEASE help. I know this can't be good for my car. Thanks
Oh, one more thing. Canold oil make your rockers start tomake that lovely clicking sound? Its been a while, and I mean aWHILE since I changed oil so its probably pretty thin in there. Just curious. If so would I still have to tighten the rockers again?

Default RE: Car problem

How many milesare on the engine?
If this is a new engine I don't know what it could be other than the things below.
If you've had the car for awhile and it's just started these symptoms it could be a fuel pressure problem.I would start with a new fuel filter and a couple of cans of fuel injector cleaner in about 1/4 tank of gas.Mixing it in this concentration won't hurt anything,it'll just speed up the cleaning process.Since it seems to be an intermittent problem it could also could be a failing fuel pressure regulator.A fuel pressure guage plumbed into the system where it's visible while you drive the car can help diagnose this problem.Compare the pressure readings while the symptoms are presenting themselves against when the car is running normally.
The oil question is dependent on the overall health of the engine.Lifter noise can be caused by low oil pressure, one or more dirty lifters,or normal valve train wear. You can try cleaning the oil system by running about a pint of diesel fuel in the oilfor afew miles before you drain the old oil out.Using cheaper oil and changing the oil every 500 miles or so along with the diesel treatment should do a lot to clean gom out of your engine.

Default RE: Car problem

The engine itself has about 10,000 miles on it give or take 1000. The car has about 200,000miles. The fuel pressure regulator is fairly new with just a few more miles on it than the engine but I know things go wrong with them so I will take your advise.
You hit the nail on the head with thelifters. I had the clicking problem before and had to change out one of the lifters because of gunk. That was about 1000 miles ago. I had never heard of using a pint of deasel to clean out the oil.
Thanks for the help.
