Default EBrake light?

Just noticed recently that my e-brake light flashes on for a second, then off whenever I hit it hard from a dead stop, or whenever I have to slam on the brakes. Is this anything to be concerned about? If so, where should I look to fix the problem?

The only thing is that the light is coming on and off for maybe a second- no hesitation with gears or anything.

Thanks in advance guys!

My guess would be somewhere on youre E brake switch has a loose connection on that thats causing it to go off and on.

Really interesting... Do you drive an automatic or a manual? Could be a loose e brake handle or a misreading by the computer. If it doesn't stop, you could get it checked out by the dealer or a brake shop. Keep us posted.[sm=smiley20.gif]

I would say it's just the e-brake moving ...I bet if the cable was tighten this would stop

They probably shouldn't let ignorant people drive fast too then. Better slow down next time you're behind the wheel.

hey pony, I'm not that familiar with the 2000 models, but if you only have one brake warning light then you definitely should get the system checked out as it could be the master cylinder is going bad and the combination proportioning/fail safe valve could be seeing loss of pressure from one side of the master cylinder. this is probably something you need a pro a the dealer to check. I found out when putting the line lock on mine that the Ford brake system, at least on the 5.0, has a valve that does two thing, one it proportions the pressure between the disks in the front and the drums in the rear, but it also has a spool valve inside which can shift to one side to provide braking pressure to one rear and one front brake in the event that one section in the master cylinder has failed or is leaking pressure internally. this is a safety improvement over the older systems where you could lose all the brakes either front or rear when the cylinder failed internally as it give you at least some pressure to the front and back simultaneously but only to one brake on each end of the car. this valve is located directly below the master cylinder and the two brake lines from each end of the master cylinder enter into it and then branch out and there is a switch mounted on it to trigger the brake lite. Please make sure you get this looked at real soon as brakes ain't nothing to fool with if they're acting up on you.

I have an auto.

I'm thinking the wires might just be a little loose... because it's only that light flashing on and it's not like the brake is engaging or anything.

I've had a problem with my dash lights being short before, so it could have something to do with that. A friend of mine said it might have something to do with rear brakes also?
