What is purging done for and what exactly is being purged?

I read these ads for puge lights and have no idea what purging is for. It seems it is often done immediatly before a race. But I can't imagine why anyone would want purge NITROUS before a race. What would be the point of that? It seems like just a waste of nitrous.

Is it simply for blasting cold gas on an intercooler before the race or something else?

 

When you purge a system you open a valve and apply pressure so you remove all the air from the lines you are purging. That way you wong get a mix of air and nitrous. Thats the way it was explained to me.

Yup, it just clears air out of the lines so you get the FULL shot of n2o

^[sm=sorry.gif][sm=youreright.gif] I meant to say your nitrous feed lines, but either way the purpose is to ensure that you get nitrous injected into your manifold/engine the instant you spray. Purge kits are a great accessory to have, both for performance and also for looks.
