fuel odor under hood?
while at stops i could smell gas, but when i shut off the car the smell tends to go away. is there common problems that stangs have (i have a 96 gt by the way, if you couldn't tell by my username) so i can pinpoint the problem rather than going through every fuel component under the hood. some hav said it could be the fuel regulator sensor (or something like that) the fuel filter could be clogged. check the fuel rail and injectors. i really don't have the time to go through all of this.
ANY HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the only way you're gonna find the leak... if you really don't have the time, light a match near it and where ever it catches fire.... THAT'S your leak. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

Since you smell it when running, it is a small
leak in the pressure or return from the tank.
If you put it on a clean surface and let it
run for a while you may spot a drip.
Take it from there

I'm guessing you got a bad injector seal... Try turning the key on (not starting the engine), see if you smell it... The fuel pump should be at full pressure at that point... If you smell gas, it's probably leaking where the injector goes into the rail, if not it's probably where the injector goes into the manifold... As for norrowingit down, your going to have to look, or as stated above, light a match or take it to a shop... Theres no easy way...

RE: fuel odor under hood?
thanks guys for your input. i also started hearing a ringing noise from the back. possibly he in tank fuel pump?
well it really doesn't mattr anymore because there was some stupid kids racing on the freeway last night, one of them lost control and "t-boned me". some scarry stuff.
since my car is totaled, would it be too big of a project to buy a shell, possibly a convertable this time, and swap everything over?

As the insurance company will total the
car I would make sure that you inform
them that it is worth more than they
are going to give you and make sure you
get the car also.
You can part out most of the stuff and at
least break even.
