Noisy Roller Rockers
NEED HELP I RECENTLY INSTALLED SOME AFR 185'S HEADS ON MY 302 I RUNNING CRANE CAMS ROLLER ROCKERS 1.6 WITH A F303 CAM I ALWAYS RAN THESE ROLLER ROCKERS WITH MY OLD GT40 P HEADS STUD MOUNT IAM ADJUSTING THEM THE SAME WAY I ALWAYS HAVED AND THEIR NOISY AT IDLE AND WHEN A REV THE ENGINE IT GETS LOUDER ANY SUGGESTIONS?[:@]

Sounds like they might be hitting something, cant tell for sure unless Im there.
Take the covers off and see if there is any marks of them hitting the covers, next make sure they are tapping the top of the pistons. Infotunatly you need to break the heads down again,clean the surface of the pistons well as well as the valves, lay some clay on the piston fairly thin, torque the head back on w/gasket and turn the engine over BY HAND!!!!
Now take the head off and see how much of a depression the valve left in the clay. If its really thin and almost or transparent then its too close, if its gone through to the piston then for sure its too close.
Another non invasive thing that you can do is get an automotive stethascope and listen for the tick, where its hitting.

I've ran 2.02 valves before i had installed 289 heads from a 66 stang never had a clearence problem these heads have the same valves I was thinking of using my old studs and guideplates but i dont know if that would make a diffrence any other suggestions

Thank for your comments to trying to help out I recently called AFR and they told me to check my pushrods lenths does anyone have a diagram or instructions on how to check preload to get the righ lenth of pushrods
