need help!
hey guys i am new to the forum. i just recently got my hands on a 1970 mustang. with a 302. it hasn't been run for a couple of years. where should i start to rebuild it. it started and i drove it home. but i need to change the oil and give it a tune up. where should i start?
change all the esential stuff. look at the fuel lines to see if they are ok. then plugs, wires, cap, rotor. dont use the gas if there was some in there. it wouldnt hurt to run a fuel cleaner through it. make sure you change the oil, transmission fluid if its a auto . do all that and it should be ok.
also good idea to drain and flush out the cooling system and refill with fresh coolant. inspect/replace all the radiator hoses and heater hoses also. also closely inspect the rubber flexible brake lines for any cracks and replace them if rubber looks at all questionable.
good idea to flush out the brake fluid and refill system with fresh clean fluid also.

A friend of mine suggests that if a motor has been sitting to do this:
1) get a spray bottle
2) fill the spray bottlw with something like Marvel Mystery oil
3) Remove spark plugs
4) spray MMO into the cylenders through the plug holes.
I don't know if this helps or nor, but he swears that it can save a motor that has been sitting for a while.

that's best done when you are putting the engine away for a long term storage, but it don't hurt to do before you try to start it either, but he already got this one running so it ain't necessary now.
