Default Temp reading kinda high

Hey, I'm running a 302HO in an EX-4cylinder body. I have don't have the heat hooked up to the heater core, so would that make it run a little warmer??? It reads in between R and A on the factory heat gauge. Any help would be AWESOME!!!!! Thanx a bunch

Having the heater core bypassed would not make it run hotter. Where your guage is at its ok.

I have found on Fords, the temp gauge pretty much reads where it wants to. As long as it is not pegged you are ok.

Thats what I was kinda thinking. I'm just scared to hurt the motor lol..... I'm gonna go down to the parts store and buy a gauge that shows #'s instead of letters just to have it. Thanx for your words of wisdom. I'm new to this so I'll take all the adviceI can get. Once I have the gauge in I'll post the temp. Thanx again!

it doesnt sound bad but you can always try an radiator upgrade which is cheap for a 5.0 like a 2 row or even change the thermostat, or fan clutch. but youre temp doesnt seem bad.

I have the mechanical water gauge in now. I ran the car yesterday for 10-15 (it was -7c) without the fan on, and it went to 190F, then rose to 200-210F. I have some gasket maker setting up right now, so I'll have to wait untill it dries, and the snow is done blowing. Thanx for your opinion/help, like I said I'm new lol
