Default VIN ?

Own a 2000 GT, at least thats what its registered as. My vin number starts like this
1FAFP, I thought that the first number was last digit of year built which would make mine a 2001. Is this right or wrong?
Thanks
Tim

No first number is the Country code

1 = US
2 = Canada

etc.

The year is actually a letter code, its like the 10th or 12th digit I can't remember.

yea the 99 stang i have starts with 1FAFP, it has to do with build site and coupe/vert.. go to a decoding site and it will decode your vin # so you can see if it is the right paint color, engine set up, and other useful things when buying the car initially.

the tenth character in the VIN is the model year car was built, in '88 the letter was J and '90 was L which is as far as my shop manual goes since it's so old. you can also get your insurance agent to decode it also I believe.
