c4 vs. c6
attached to my 351W is a ford automatic tranny which i believe is a c4. it got me thinkin. i was just wondering what the differences are between the 2, both visually and performance wise. thanks
it's easy to tell the difference between the two, the bell housing on the C-6 tranny is integral with the tranny and cannot be removed separately where the bellhousing on the C-4 can be removed from the tranny with 4 or 5 bolts taken loose. joe is right about the C-6 being the big bad tranny that came behind the big blocks and the 351 Cleveland engine I think. most racers prefer a well built C-4 since it's much lighter and has less frictional power losses internally compared to the C-6.

My neighbor went through 19 trannys in his '89 GT including 1 C6.
well, these are exactly the answers i was looking for, so thanks for that. now i am sure mine is a c4. i might do a little to it (manual valve body, higher stall) just so i can have some fun with it next summer.
