electronic ignition

electronic ignition
have a 1968 289 2 barrel mustang coupe I am fixing up. Would it be worth it to put an electronic ignition in this car? I don't want a hot rod, just want it to run "smooth". Some tell me to just spend $100 and put in the Pertronix ignitor...others tell me to put in a whole new distributor, about $275.. I only plan on driving this car about 2000 miles a year, at most. Looking for someone who may have done this change over on a simalar car who might help me decide. Like all, am on a budget, but won't mind spending the extra if it will really be an improvement...

RE: electronic ignition
Oh yea absolutely dump the "points & condensers" & switch to electronic ignition! Better performance & more reliable, which is what you want from a car that's only used occasionally.
Not sure what sorts of conversion kits still exist, there were TONS on the market when electonic ignition first arrived.. the pricier all-in-one solution is to swap out the whole distributor like you say, but I'd think that is $275 well spent

I've got the Pertronix system on mine and I love it, no points to adjust ever again. Come on over to the classic section, there is a ton of information on this topic.
