Default T-5 Rebuild

I'm getting my transmission rebuilt because of my 2nd gear sync problem. What should I make sure of when I take my transmission to get rebuilt. I mean, I know I should make sure all of the gears are working well, but is there anything else I should make sure of.

Thanks,
Transmission Tard

i would check you clutch and throw out bearing while you have everything out and if there is any sign of wear replace them, on second thought if i was you i would replace the throw out bearing anyways and make sure your clutch cable is in good condition too, rather be safe than sorry, and one more thing go ahead and check u joints too

if the gears look good a complete tranny rebuild wouldnt be necessary. Being me I would rebuild it anyways. But just listen to stangpower.

Are you talking about the 02-04 tranny 1-2 syncro problem? If so those are T3650 not T-5's.

If Ford is doing the rebuild they are required to go through each gear set and check for damage. They ended up replacing 1,2,3, AND 4 because of damage. If they didn't believe that there was something wrong to start they better have after they fixed it!

Mine's a 95 GT. It's a T-5.

Thanks for the input guys. I replaced my clutch and all that jazz about 4 months ago, so that's in good condition. What are the joints that stangpower talks of?

Roughly, how long do you think the rebuild will last if I take it to a transmission shop? A long enough time to be worth it right?

after the rebuild you will be looking for a few key things. sometimes its not just the pricetag or the name of the shop that makes a good rebuild, it could be the feel of the T5. play with shifter and listen to the linkages and synchros. feel around with it, make sure when you push it into gear that it only takes a gentle tug to get it to fall into place. make sure its not sloppy and that when its in neutral you hear the linkages when you move the stick left and right. sometimes it takes a little experience and good ears to just 'know' a good tranny when you feel it. good luck.

EDIT: IMO i love the T5 transmission, and i dont like when people bad mouth it, its a well made unit and not as complex as a honda.
