Tach question

factory tach stuck on 1400, guy I just bought from said did work once but just stuck recent. It has had a MSD box on the car at one time, the wires on the stock coil are stock.
Tell me were to look first for the problem.Thanks

Is the needle stuck at 1400 all the time, including when the engine is off? If that's the case then the needle itself in the dash is screwed up.
If it stay at 0 when off then jumps to 1400 with the engine starting then you have a signal feed problem
If it stay at 0 when off then jumps to 1400 with the engine starting then you have a signal feed problem
