Default sub frames and welding

ok, so im thinking of getting some sub frames and welding them in. the problem is, i usually only weld .25" mild steal. so im wondering how thick is the metal under the car? i dont want to punch right through it with the mig welder. last time i tried welding on a car body (which is really thin) i went right through and just made the hole bigger...and i had my welder set at its lowest and i was only welding in short bursts. long story short, what are the chances of welding right through the bottom of my car?

the parts where you'll be welding on the car are about 1/4 thick steel, same for the subframes so looks like your good

you need to worry more about setting the sound deadening materials underneath the carpets on fire than you do burning through the chassis when you weld on the connectors. I highly recommend you peel back the carpets and scrape up the rubber based sound deadening materials before you strike an arc as rubber burning will really stink up the inside of your Stang.

you need to remove the rear seat bottom to get access back there and the carpet is loose so it peels up easy. to go the front, remove the seats, 4 bolts and one wire connector, and the lower door molding strip, several philips heads screws, and the carpet will peel up easy enough for you to get access to remove the sound deadening gunk. you can leave the carpet propped up with an empty beer can while you weld the subrames too.
