destroyed a piston how expensive to fix

RE: destroyed a piston how expensive to fix
or the timing caused the piston to break and the piston was making the noise...
and acer, that might be a good idea, but who knows if the block is fuxxored (or does the 5.1 need a .030 overbore anyway)

Yep, I think that I would stay away from Ford dealer for a new engine too. Remember, you get what you pay for in the end. Also, you can bet that the cylinder that the piston broke in is f--ked up too.

After thinking about this some more, I can't really see how 2 degrees timing advance could "break a piston" unless you used low octane gas and ignored the sounds of pinging in the engine under load. I would take the car to another mechanic and get a second opinion without telling him that you already had someone else diagnose it so his opinion is not biased by the first guy's. I definitely wouldn't change engines without a second opinion and the exact reasons why they say you have a broken piston.

if you have a broken piston it wouldn't run long as it will crumble.....the 01 as well as many other have the knock sensor most chips don't disable it....as for a new engine why not a low mileage 5.4 out of a truck or navitgator? now with timing a remote thing to happen is a small hole in the piston which would be a pop sound....

RE: destroyed a piston how expensive to fix
my mom has a 95 lexus, cam locked up and wouldnt turn, used lexus v8 with 70k miles on it was 1500 dollars, lexus engines are expensive though, so if comes to buying another engine, ask some local small shops and stuff, not dealers.
