Default manual 5 speed clutch adjustment

Just got my 98 GT and see it requires frequent clutch adjustemnt

Can any one rerecomend a service manual (Haynes/Clymer/Ford)?

Can you give me a short clutch adjustment procedure?

Can you tell me how the clutch quadrant kit is related to clutch adjustment and its procedure?

Thanks

Why does it require frequent adjustment? What is it doing wrong?

The factory manual shows required adjustments at 10-15K intervals.

Ok, the way you adjust the clutch, as dictated by ford, is pull back on the clutch pedal. You actually slide the pedal laterally a bit, then pull it back. What this does is keep the disenguagement point 'higher' for less pedal travel. The quadrant is a small plastic piece that acts like a little wratchet between your pedal and the linkage. Often times in these cars, and this was the case for the 03-4 cobras as well, the disenguagement point is too low on the pedal. What that means is that you have to push the pedal in a ways before the clutch disenguages. If that is what is happening in your car, and you want to change it, I recommend a new quadrant and a manually adjusting cable. This will allow you to set the disenguagment point where ever you want it. The plasic quadrant is a piece of crap. Steeda offers a billet double hook quadrant that will improve your feel and will work in conjunction with the new manual cable.

The first thing I did when i got my S281E was get a steeda billet quadrant and a cable. One of the things I am 'pickyest' about on my vehicles is the clutch. I like my disengagement point very high on the pedal. after 3 inches of travel I want the clutch disengaged. Period. This isn't possible with the hydrolic ones.
